My name is Sue and I live in West Yorkshire, on the edge of the Peak District. I moved here from the South of England twenty-two years ago, to a smallholding on the side of a hill.  I spent a lot of time with my grandparents when I was growing up and their wisdom about self-sufficiency, make-do-and-mend, and general thriftiness has been a strong influence on me. I have been thinking a lot lately about how we can live a more sustainable and fulfilling life, how to live lightly on the earth, how to put aside my rodent ways and leave the rat-race for good.

This blog will not have a very coherent theme, because I want to talk about growing food, reusing and repurposing, making things rather than buying things, doing and being rather than consuming. I also talk a lot about chickens, because I keep them for their eggs and for their companionship.
